Q & A Session with Savannah
What brought you to NPP/tell us your background.
I actually didn’t start off working in the pet industry at all. Working with animals is something I have always wanted to do but never had the opportunity. I started working as a cashier at Shoprite and soon moved up into the bakery. After working there for 3, almost 4 years, I had quite a bit of customer service knowledge as well as how to run a department – ordering, stocking, scheduling, etc. I then moved to a car dealership and after needing a change of pace from a desk job and wanting to be back to a more physical job again, I found NPP and instantly fell in love with the atmosphere and the kind of work I would be doing since NPP is incredibly knowledgeable. I finally would get to work with animals after all these of wishing and hoping I would, and NPP is what I think the best retail pet food store to work for.
Tell us about your pets!
I have three pets – 2 cats and a dog. My first cat is Emerald, and she is a 13-year-old black cat. We rescued her from the animal humane society after she had a rough first year of her life, including a surgery for her and her kittens who unfortunately did not make it. She has now made herself queen of the house but is the sweetest cat I have met. My second cat, Smokey, is an 11-year-old black cat who we also rescued from my aunt who could no longer keep the cat. He is super high energy and sometimes we call him a little devil because he is a huge troublemaker but he is also very sweet and loveable – he absolutely adores climbing up on me and being held like a baby. We’ve had both our cats since they were a year old each and we didn’t plan on having two matching black cats but they are very fitting for my family. My most recent animal is a dog and her name is Ziggy. We too rescued her from someone who couldn’t keep her. She is 6 years old and she’s actually my first dog (that I remember) and we have only had her since March of 2021. She is a mini labradoodle and the most loveable little angel I have the pleasure of owning. She is very playful and high-energy and the most photogenic animal I know.
What do you enjoy most about working at NPP?
I love that NPP is a female-dominated workplace. There is something so empowering knowing that this business was built from the ground up by all women. It’s so comforting working in an environment of people who are like-minded and understand what everyone is going through and what we are like as individuals. It really makes me feel like no matter what stands in my way I can be successful and accomplish anything even if there are certain blockages in my way.
Tell us your must-have item from NPP.
I love the Primal Toppers and Goat Milks. A lot of people, myself included, feel as though just the meat in the bowl when feeding raw to their dogs is not enough. I love these because it’s super easy to add a little something extra to help fill them up a little more. It also cuts down on prep time since with the Toppers you don’t have to cut up or cook veggies to give to them. I love that they are versatile too, especially the goat milk. Since it’s hot outside I love making ice pops for my dog and adding fresh fruit in there for a nice treat!
What is your favorite item to recommend and why?
I love recommending supplements. Most people come into the store with issues related to health, and even if they don’t want to change their pets’ food, simply adding a supplement can be really beneficial to the animal. I love the SuperSnouts collection as well as the K9 Glucosamine, both of which I use for all three of my pets.
